Lamp tree

Shih Meng Hsin

Lamp Tree is an installation sculpture that merges the posture of wind-bent roadside trees with the transformed symbol of the yellow pillar lamps commonly seen in Taiwanese households. Growing with a gently tilted stance and extending out from a small gap at the corner, it resembles a body shaped by years of sea wind.

Inspired by the historical landscape of Yanshuei’s former Daofeng Inland Sea, the work is composed of multiple yellow spherical lamps in various sizes. The main structure stands in the corner like a bent roadside tree, while smaller yellow globes emerge from the wall’s cracks, seams, and weathered traces—like fruits of light. At night, these warm glows softly tint the surfaces of Fish-scale Alley, subtly shifting the atmosphere, temperature, and perception of the space.
